My First Radio World Premiere!

Yesterday, the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra delivered an exceptional radio world premiere of my latest piece, ‘i will go down to the river and wait’  live from the Irvin Levin Performance Hall on KQAC Portland All Classical's Thursday @ Three live broadcast.  The live broadcast was recorded and will be available for replay for a few weeks on All Classical Radio's Thursdays @ Three archive page.

I wrote this piece for OMO to feature in their fall program Elegies and Ecologies, Music Inspired by Memories, Mourning & the Natural World. They'll be performing the entire program three times in October, including a livestreamed performance on October 11. I'm excited to be a part of it and hope you will listen!

The piece is inspired by the writing of naturalist Barry Lopez.  In his story story, Lessons from the River from his collection Embrace Fearlessly The Burning World, Lopez writes about how he has watched the return of Chinook salmon by his home in the middle reach of the McKenzie River for 48 straight years, which in his experience always happens within 24 hours of noon September 17th. “Each year I wait for the reassurance they bring, that even though things abstract and concrete are looking bad everywhere in the world, these fish are carrying on.”

Special thanks to Christian McKee, Musical Director of Oregon Mandolin Orchestra and Christa Wessel, host of All Classical Radio’s Thursdays @ Three, and all the members of Oregon Mandolin Orchestra for making this wonderful achievement possible!
